About us and the Breed

Maine coons are the largest domestic cat breed.  Maine Coon Males average weight is between 14 to 18 pounds, with large ones reaching around 25 pounds.  Females average between 8 to 13 pounds.  Maine coons mature very slowly, they won’t reach their full size until they are 3 to 5 years old.

The breed originated in the U.S. state of Maine, where it is the official state cat.

They are very sociable cat characterized by a prominent ruff along its chest, robust bone structure, strong jawline, rectangular body shape, an uneven two-layered coat with longer guard hairs over a silky satin undercoat, and a long, bushy tail.

Maine Coons are regarded as "gentle giants" and possess above-average intelligence, making them relatively easy to train.

Many Maine Coons have a fascination with water and some speculate that this personality trait comes from their ancestors, who were aboard ships for much of their lives. Maine Coons are also well known for being very vocal cats. They are known for their frequent yowling or howling, trilling, chirping, and making other loud vocalizations.
